His former owner, the same person from whom Ruby and Cesar were rescued (you can read more about from our April news, claims he was bitten by a snake on his leg.Upon inspection, the wound is far more consistent with “hobbling”; an all too common practice of tethering legs together to limit mobility.
Additionally the donkey’s general condition is deplorable. He is dehydrated, starved and weak. Our volunteers Matthias and Markos, could not walk the donkey to our shelter and he collapsed en route.
We have consulted with a vet, as to the extent of the damage to the tendon and are in urgent need for injectable antibiotics to be sent to us and funds to provide the urgent medical attention required to save his foot.We also need the funds to purchase the necessary materials, in order to build him an enclosure, provide him shelter, and to procure suitable feed.At present, the donkey is being kept in the puppy pen of our shelter.
This is not a suitable solution, since this brings the donkey in closer proximity to the larger dogs currently in our care, whose barking creates undue stress and anxiety for him. This donkey has been confiscated, due to the extent of his wounds but our shelter is not set up to house equines.
This however, was our only immediate solution in order to remove this donkey from a highly abusive situation.Leaving the donkey to its fate would have meant continued abuse, starvation, dehydration, pain and suffering. We are therefore counting on your support and are hopeful that TOGETHER will be able afford him, the cares he needs.
Lastly we want this serial animal abuser to be brought to justice and to have the law applied to the fullest extent, we need to raise the funds necessary for filing fees and attorney's fees. The man in the checked shirt (seen in the attached images) is the man responsible for this animal's torture and that of Ruby and Cesar. His name is Giorgos Kambosos and we will be filing a lawsuit against this serial animal abuser.
Our first objective is to nurse the donkey back to health. We need your donations for life-saving medication and ensure his already precarious health does not deteriorate further. We are estimating 1000 Euro to go toward medication and vet care.Feed will be 100 Euro a month, we are hoping to place an order for a few months.
Our second objective is to prosecute Giorgos Kambosos.Laws regarding animal abuse are in existence and we are fully prepared to bring this case to trial, petitioning for the imposing of a heavy fine and to ensure that Giorgos Kambosos is banned from having any more animals in his care. This will be our first court case in animal abuse on the island of Patmos and we intend to set a precedent, in as far as animal welfare and the legal system are concerned. The community must be made aware that animal welfare laws do exist and that here on the island of Patmos, we take animal abuse seriously but we cannot do it alone. We need a 100 euro filing fee and approximately 800 euros for a legal consultation and start with the law suit (there may be additional attorney fees, once we start the process). The amount in excess of the above mentioned costs will go toward purchasing material to build a pen and labor and to cover the percentage collected by Indiegogo to run this cam
We need to raise funds in the vicinity of 3500 euro.
All we are asking is for a 1 euro donation from you and for you to share this campaign widely on your respective pages, to as many activists as you can in order to help us reach our goal.
Together we can do this!
We are counting on you to come together for this overworked, tired and abused little donkey.
